In the second half of last year we met with several of our members:
We met with our new member Multraship in Den Helder. The company's core activities are harbour & terminal towage, salvage, sea towage, offshore services and port services. We spoke with Bianca Pielaat who told us all about the activities of Multraship and their own training activities, very impressive.
We visited Van Heck in Noordwolde and spoke with Jeroen van Heck, director/owner. He gave us a presentation about their activities, mostly related to flood/water control, and showed us the Sea Trophy, see image below. This oil pump enables fast oil recovery out of fuel or cargo tanks if a ship is in distress or when incorrect fueling has taken place. Van Heck’s equipment is designed and built on their own premises.
At the Port of Rotterdam we met with Rob Schroth, Officier van Dienst. Rob told us all about the professional way spills are handled by the Port of Rotterdam. They cover a large industrial area and acting quickly, and professionally is crucial to prevent disasters and make sure port activities are not delayed. From their office we had a perfect view over the river Maas, see picture below.
Last but not least we visited Nortek, we spoke with Sicco Kamminga, director. He explained to us how the Nortek SeaDarQ radar automatically detects oil spills on the sea surface. Very interesting to hear about, and about all the other activities of Nortek. Many thanks to Sicco, see image below.
